Pottery and gardening. Pleasurable, rewarding hobbies that let me get my hands into the earth and coax things from it.
One hobby stimulates ideas in the other. As the garden displays its colours it inspires me to create some flowerpots and floral arranging centrepieces. When the thermometer drops, the birds search for food in the flower beds and I think, perhaps some bird feeders?
Making functional pieces interests me the most. I am still learning and am fortunate to be continually inspired and challenged by the creativity of my fellow Woodlawn artists. The greatest encouragement and reward for my perseverance in this sometimes-frustrating hobby is when others enjoy and use my pieces in their homes and gardens. And when the sparrows and cardinals flock to my bird feeders for their daily feast.
