Laura Rabinowitz

I first encountered pottery as a high school student in Northern California, and continued with a studio art minor at Skidmore College in upstate New York. Some of my fondest memories from college are firing the wood kiln late into the night. The academic career I have pursued since has led to many moves, but whether in Berkeley, Austin, or Boulder, I’ve always tried to find a studio to keep my hands busy. I’m grateful the moves have ended and my pottery practice has found a home within the artistic community of Woodlawn. 

I love how many facets there are to working with clay—from the composition of the clay itself to the endless possibilities of surface design and glazing. I’ve also learned to love the fragility of ceramics, something one notices all the more with young children at home. It reminds me never to be too attached to things, while also motivating me to make more of them. I enjoy working on the wheel, making small useful pieces that I hope add a bit of beauty to the everyday.
