Class Information
Come play with clay! Woodlawn Pottery Studio offers mixed-level courses. Each course teaches foundational hand-building and wheel throwing techniques which may be applied to both functional and sculptural forms. Classes offer a flexible curriculum to accommodate adult potters of all levels. Class size is restricted to ensure individual attention.
Please note: if a student must miss a class, we are unable to offer makeup class time.
For Beginner Potters
For this new (or newish) to clay, the class focus will be on material exploration, experimenting with the core techniques in clay: pinching, coiling, slab-rolling and building, wheel throwing and trimming, and glazing. Demos and hands-on activities will give everyone a chance to explore processes and develop a small number of take-home products.
For Intermediate Potters
Our classes also cater to those familiar with clay who want to develop their technique and their skill repertoire. Intermediate students generally work independently on projects of their own choosing, supported by demos, exercises, and instruction as needed. Intermediate students often explore new forms and surface decoration (e.g., coloured slips, texture, glazing techniques) and have a chance to refine their work.
Class Details:
Students currently registered are given first priority for the following session. Full registration for all students is based on payment received by e-transfer. Please complete the class request form and our Class Registrar will provide class updates, registration and payment procedures.

Danica Drago is an interdisciplinary artist and arts facilitator based in Toronto. Through the creation of functional, sculptural, and wearable forms in ceramic, metal, and various material outcomes, Danica's practice as a tool and object maker is drawn towards investigating their own embodied experiences of trans/gender expansiveness, collaborative acts of making as divergent knowledge-sharing, and process-driven material exploration. Danica’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and they have led an active studio-based teaching practice in ceramics for the past seven years; working with youth and adults at the Gardiner Museum, Jewish Community Centre, Harbourfront Centre, and local ceramic studios across the GTA. They have also facilitated site-specific clay and tool-making workshops with artist-run centres and community organizations in public parks, libraries, schools, streets and rooftops. They are a recent Ceramics Studio alumni of the Craft & Design Artist-in-Residence program at Harbourfront Centre.
